Statement

My work consists primarily of painting and light-based installation. In this work I am dealing with systems of belief, faith, and intangible experience, to question the correlations and contradictions that exist between dogmatic religion and mysticism. I’m interested in how systems of color and form can be applied as a means to describe an abstract, intangible notion. The tension between concept and the physical piece is similar to the tension between dogmatic belief and physical existence. The question of whether or not it is possible to unify a rational system with the messiness of intuitive activity alludes to a questioning of mysticism and religion as systems of transcendence.
